Dr. Chris Lane

Chris Lane

Chris Lane received a BS(h) degree in Biology at Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut in 1999 before heading north, in what would be a nine year stint in Atlantic Canada. After pursuing a PhD in Biology at the University of New Brunswick, working on the evolution of seaweed, he spent four years in Halifax as a Postdoctoral Fellow at Dalhousie University. During this time, Chris’ wife Megan was working as a Land Securement Coordinator in the Fredericton, and subsequently, Dartmouth office of the Nature Conservancy of Canada (NCC). Often accompanying Megan out to various Atlantic properties, Chris has a strong connection to the region and the NCC office there. In 2008 he was hired as an Assistant Professor at the University of Rhode Island (URI), where he was promoted with tenure in 2014. Chris currently has an active research program funded by the National Science Foundation and the United States Department of Agriculture, and teaches both undergraduate and graduate students at URI.

Chris and Megan have two daughters, one of whom was born in Canada, and live in North Kingston, Rhode Island, near the ocean that has always fascinated them.
