Roger Smith moved to Edmonton in 1969 after completing his M.A. and Ph.D in Economics at the University of California, Berkeley. He was a Professor, Dean of the Business School, VP (Research) and Acting VP (Academic) while at the University of Alberta. Dr. Smith was with the IMF in Washington, D.C. (1972-74), Erasmus University (1983-84) and at the International Tax Program at Harvard University in 1977-78 and 1995-96. He has been a consultant to the IMF, World Bank, OECD, Auditor General of Canada, and a member of provincial tax and finance advisory committees.
He has served as Board Chair for the Banff School of Advanced Management, Alberta Capital Region United Way, Winspear Foundation, the Alberta ICT Institute and on the boards of the Alberta Science and Research Authority, the Alberta Conservation Association and the Alberta Region of the Nature Conservancy of Canada. He is currently on the board of the Yellowstone to Yukon Conservation Initiative.
Roger, married to Libby, has three grown children and two grandchildren and currently lives on Flathead Lake in Montana.
